CASE INFORMATION

This was SJGR's first investigation of the historic Smithville Mansion site.  Built in 1840, the red brick mansion is not the only building on the site.  There are several out-buildings remaining on this 19th century mill village, which is set along the Rancocas Creek.  Its most famous occupant, and spirit several SJGR investigators picked up on, is Hezekiah B. Smith who purchased the property in 1865.

Hezekiah Smith made modifications to the mansion, the greatest of which is the annex, which includes a game room, a billiard room, and a bowling alley. Descendants of Hezekiah Smith lived in the mansion until 1962 when sections of the annex were converted into apartments.  In 1975 the Smithville Mansion and Village were purchased by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders.  The Mansion is famous for its renowned gardens and extensive art collection.

After multiple investigations and SJGR's appearance at the 2006 Spirits and Spirits Fund Raiser, our group was asked to come in and fully investigate the mansion and outbuildings.  Monthly investigations are scheduled through Summer of 2007.

An average amount of 4%of the investigators' photos were deemed positive which is average for any location.   There were above average amounts of positive EMF readings, motion sensor alarms and EVPs obtained.

AUDIO CLIPS

11:10pm - Investigator Smith recorded this EVP while taking notes on her Olympus digital recorder after entering the 2nd floor Sewing/Play Room.  It is the voice of a woman saying "Inside, come inside".  Click here to play EVP

11:30pm – While in the hallway that leads to the apartments before you get to the annex Investigator Jenkins was attempting to record spirit voices and Investigator Kurkis recorded with him.  At one point he asked “what was your name?”  Investigator Kurkis recorded what sounds like “Neville”.  Click here to play EVP
