CASE INFORMATION

This was SJGR's first investigation of this Burlington County landmark.  The Library Company of Burlington Free Library is housed in a building dating from 1864.  However, the library and some of its collection dates back to 1758, the second oldest library in New Jersey and the seventh in the nation.

Investigators independently identified a male spirit in the unfinished portion of the basement; a protective presence in the library but one who resents any intrusion into ‘his’ space.  One investigator detected the presence of a soldier in the basement.  Investigators reported they received impressions of the names “James” or “Jim”, “George”, and “Charlie”.
Another spirit investigators reported was that of a female on the second floor, possibly with the name “Caroline”. She seemed to observe the team and was also a protective presence.
There was also a layer of residual energy discerned by some of the investigators, which may explain the name "George", as this library was chartered by King George II.
While the entire library seems to have spirit activity, the majority of psychic impressions came from the unfinished portion of the basement. Of all the positive photos, the most came from the Gallery, the second most from the Resource Room, then the Finished and Unfinished portions of the basement.

Approximately 4.6% of the photos taken during the investigation contained orbs, which falls within the normal range of expected percentages at any location, haunted or not.  No positive anomalous EMF, temperature readingsEVPs, or motion sensor readings were recorded during this investigation, and video equipment was not used.
