Who You Gonna Call? Just Take a Guess

This may be the week for spooks and goblins and ghouls, but the people at South Jersey Ghost Research say that is no reason for children to feel terrorized at Halloween. "We had been getting e-mails on our Web site from kids, so we decided that we should have a special section there just for them," said John Nilsen of Browns Mills, who helped start the Web page -- www.sjgrkids.org -- in time for Halloween.

The site tells children that many things they think are ghosts are probably other phenomena. Knocking sounds may be the heater pipes, and ghostly lights could be headlights coming through a window. But Mr. Nilsen and his fellow South Jersey Ghost Research members are definitely pro-ghost. In fact, he said, his family believes friendly spirits inhabit their home. "I've had my name called," Mr. Nilsen said. "We've had things disappear and never return. My son has seen a woman with a candle drifting up and down the stairs."

The group seeks evidence of ghostly energy by checking for energy "orbs" that they believe the ghosts emit. The use digital photos and video cameras, thermal -sensitive instruments and electromagnet field detectors to see if unusual energy is on the premises. by Robert Strauss
